Case Study on Quality
A leading secondary publisher in e-research and educational content publishing creates and maintains more than 600 databases that are published online, in print, as eBooks and in microform.
However, it found itself experiencing problems of poor quality and high turnover among its existing outsourced abstracting and indexing vendors.
Data Gateway documented its first training for this project (done remotely via Internet), created its own training manual and conducted subsequent trainings as production ramp-up progressed. Data Gateway also created a Quality Manual for its team’s internal use, to ensure that consistent quality is attained.
A marked difference with other vendors was eventually observed by the client after evaluating Data Gateway during this period.

on Turnaround
A leading provider of scientific and technical abstracts maintains a database of over 12 million bibliographic records and catalogs. This provider has to deal with a range of problems in sourcing, processing and monitoring all the content that need to be uploaded daily to its database in order to be current and extensive in its coverage.
Data Gateway organized its team of indexers from Physics, Engineering, and Computing backgrounds. Data Gateway created its own production software as well as a monitoring software to keep track of all the publications received and returned by Data Gateway.
Within 6 months, Data Gateway was able to maintain average turnaround at 7 days (as required), which was later reduced to within 3-5 days. We also achieved the annual target volume in just 11 months.

This project involved the creation of original business abstracts from articles sourced from
published periodicals in the chemical business and allied industries.
Consumer Health Abstracts
Data Gateway has created structured and informative abstracts from highly technical patent documents
and patent applications downloaded from various online resources. For this project, patents processed
involve medical devices, medical procedures, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical innovations.
Engineering Abstracting and Indexing
Editorial work for the creation of Engineering Abstracts involved data capture, intelligent indexing and abstracting of highly technical source materials with subject coverage encompassing physics, electrical engineering, computer science, and information technology. A proprietary software developed in-house was used in the creation of these abstracts, and comprehensive production systems were put in place to give Data Gateway the flexibility to process source materials either in hardcopy or electronic form.
Copyediting of Conference Papers
Editorial work for this project involved the copyediting of engineering papers submitted for conference proceedings.
